I've been working with Nancy Scheper-Hughes, medical anthropologist at U.C. Berkeley. She did her thesis based on anthropological investigations in a small town in Ireland. The book is "Saints, Scholars, and Schizophrenics."
Twenty years later she went back and was unable to "preach to the choir." She was kicked out of Ireland. Her paper on that is "Ire in Ireland" here.
In December 2012 Nancy was invited to be the keynote speaker for the Anthropology Association of Ireland convention.

PREACHING TO THE CHOIR
I dread an audiencešs ire,
thus practice preaching to the choir.
I choose my words most carefully
and pray folks will agree with me.
All controversy I avoid,
and hope no one will be annoyed by anything
I dare to say, and for approval
humbly pray. I do not seek heroic parts
Let others speak truth from their hearts.
