The DSM-IV was designed with a "PMS disorder." I was part of a group of "mental patient" activists that protested at the San Francisco ApA convention where the diagnosis was under discussion. With that diagnosis in mind, I went (with some other activists) to a meeting of the National Organization of Women, and got them to co-sponsor our protest.
The impact of our demo was sufficient that the committee discussing the DSM-IV invited us into their meeting, so that they might "hear" our concerns.

PsySR, I want to share this important happening with you. One of my professional organizations is the Society for Menstrual Cycle Research. Our organization is mentioned in a current Newsweek issue on western culture problems with menstruation. See below!
We are amazed that this public conversation is happening.
