Discrimination
Issues.
CIS 41 Reg. ID 44603 with Mental Health
Client Focus
constitutes an innovative arrangement aimed
especially for teaching mental health clients in a ‘client culture’
environment. See the course flyer for
some detail. The Discrimination Dilemma
talk by former County Patients Rights Advocate Alison Brunner
elaborates on that.
Civility.
While you do not need to be a current or former mental health client
to take this section, you are expected to be respectful in dealing with
other students who are mental health clients. Everybody is expected to be respectful
to everybody. That pertains in general, but it
is especially targeted at the discriminatory social conditions that
affect mental health clients. I intend to promote actively
a civil environment in the classroom.
Beauty Path.
The Vision behind this Section is that we want to help construct
the way for mental health clients to
- have real lives, &
- become technically skilled members of the
Silicon Valley workforce.
We have
to recognize that the current ‘client culture’ is
based on an economy of
entitlements; it does not yet fully
engage the tokenist
social relations that generally obtain. We will
endeavor to be sensitive to how this sort of
situation promotes complexities in the class
environment
THANK YOU VERY
MUCH FOR YOUR RESPECT FOR THESE CONCERNS
