    PARTICULARS:

  • This section — while open to all students — involves an innovative arrangement with the Disabled Students Program (DSP), where (mental health) ‘client culture’ will be supported. That means that general atmosphere of respect must obtain, and will be enforced if need be
  • COURSE OBJECTIVES:

    Use computer terminology effectively; provide functional description of various components of an information system (hardware and software); distinguish system software from application software. Utilize application software such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentation graphics; develop simple computer programs using a programming language. Describe societal and privacy issues of information systems. Follow written and oral instructions accurately and precisely as it relates to applications and programs. Develop group skills; handle computer setbacks effectively so as to permit improvement of skills and abilities. Use the World-Wide Web effectively to acquire and evaluate information and communicate with others using e-mail.

    COURSE DESCRIPTION:

    [Catalog]  Students will develop an understanding of what constitutes a computer information system, acquire knowledge about hardware, software, data, computer number systems, and procedures and expand that understanding to include the impact and application of computers in business, government, and social organizations. The influence of the Internet on business is discussed, & terms relating to the Web are explained. Students will gain skills in performing the fundamental functions that an operating system provides, be given an opportunity for hands-on practice of introductory level skills in word-processing, spreadsheets, presentation graphics, and use of the Internet. Students will be exposed to a programming language

    EXPECTATIONS:

  • Devices.  Cellphones, iPods, etc. are not allowed in class. Nor is going out to answer the cellphone. Doing so during an exam will result in grade deduction
  • Talking.  Talking in class is discouraged. Students who persist may be permanently reseated, or otherwise directed
  • Plagiarism.  The appearance of plagiarism/cheating will be grounds for failure of test/assignment or the course itself
