This is my only means of communicating with the class in between class meetings. You should check it frequently for changes and/or additions

Calculator. You need a scientific calculator. A TI-83 or TI-84 graphing utility is recommended
The Course. Analytic trigonometry, including identities, solutions of trigonometric equations, inverse trigonometric functions, graphs of trigonometric functions, solutions of right and oblique triangles, with applications
Homework. Homework is assigned daily, and available on the Course Web Site. Doing the homework is key to learning the material. The best thing is to do everything that is assigned, and more. Students who do not keep up will soon fall behind dangerously. Generally homework is on a not hand in status. Exception is two (2) Problem Sets which will be handed in and graded
Quizzes. You are responsible for Homework Quizzes (occasional, unannounced, no make-up) which are quizzes testing you on 1-2 current homework problems. It is hoped that this will encourage you to keep up with the work
Exams. There will be three (3) exams plus the final exam. Because the class period is more than two hours long, it is necessary to have a lecture period the same day as an exam. NOTE: Attendance will be taken for that day’s lecture period
Grading. The grades will be based on a “raw score” of between 0 and 100. These will be ‘curved’ by giving students with similar raw scores the same grade. NOTE: This does not necessarily mean that “90=A.” Instead, it all depends on the raw score distribution. There will be a block of “A” grades, a block of “B” grades, and so forth. Midway through the course, or after, I should be able to estimate for you how you are doing

    raw score contributions
    unit(s) points
    2 Problem Sets @ 5% 10
    HW Quizzes 2
    3 Exams @15% 45
    Final Exam 35
    Subjective 8

Subjective Grade. Based on constructive class participation. 5 is the default grade. Contribution to group learning is appreciated. Personal attacks on the instructor or other students will warrant an automatic 0. Persistent disruptive activity will warrant a 2 or less. Other remedies may also apply
Cellphone. Use of iPods or cellphones is forbidden. Possible credit deduction for ringing (yes!), or other offenses. Do not leave classroom to talk on the phone!
Attendance. Missing class two (2) times after the first day, without adequate explanation, will be considered grounds for reduction of grade/failure. “Adequate explanation” means send me a timely e-mail message

I take missing class very seriously

Plagiarism.  You are expected to do your own work. The appearance  of cheating is grounds for failing a test/assignment or the course itself, at the discretion of the instructor. Be careful!
Expectations.  Students involved with high school need to know that their families can’t be involved in any way.  Students who need to do well to meet a transfer requirement  ought to have a plan that confronts their personal challenges adequately.  If you have doubts about your situation, consult with the instructor.
Disclaimer.  This policy may be adjusted at the discretion of the instructor. In this case an effort will be made to provide timely notification
